Devin's heart melted when he heard her voice. Why had he been so mean? "No. I'm not." he said trying to control his voice. He couldn't stop the tears from his eyes as he wiped them from his cheeks. Why did she have to change? Why? He swallowed a lump in his throat and played with a string on his shirt. Please Asha, he thought, please dont let this stop us from being together.

Asha was relieved and at the same time devastated. "So then... you know?" she asked choking back a sob. She looked down at the whole in her sweater, it was knit and she could probably fix it but it had gotten bigger. Dang it! she thought. Devin had bought her this sweater for her birthday. She had said no to the countless other things he wanted to give her and told him to get her the sweater she wanted from PAC Sun, and also that if he spent anymore than that she wouldn't take it. She didn't like it when people pampered her. "Please tell me you know." she whispered almost begging him. She knew that he did already. Dakota had said somehow they always found out. "Dakota doesn't know anything... we can still see each other right?" She asked him although she doubted it. Couldn't Devin think up one of his plans. Like he did to skip school. Her mind jumped through old and forgotten memories of them. All of the sudden she found herself blurting out the funniest part of this whole thing "Dakota imprinted on a ten year old." she said grinning "Thats like...disgusting!" she said laughing at her brother. She had to tell him that before it slipped to someone else that Dakota was in love with a ten-year-old.

Devin sighed. Yes of course he knew. "Yeah. I know." he said, his voice flat with hurt. He didn't know what to do. Charity could see him meeting if he decided ahead of time. That wasn't going to work. She had already told him not to see her. "I don't know if we can, Asha." he said as more tears broke loose. It was the hardest thing he'd ever had to say. Especially to Asha. He put his head in his free hand and cried silently. What was he going to do?

Asha listened to the sound of his hurt voice and it crushed her. "Please, Devin." she sank deeper against the wall and as she looked up she saw Dakota standing in her door way. His face was unreadable. She stood up her anger boiling to the top shoving and pushing Dakota trying to get him out the door he stumbled backward a little bit each time she found enough strength to shove him hard. "GET OUT DAKOTA, THIS IS YOU'RE FAULT!" she shouted at him finally shoving him the last little bit out the door and slamming it. "Sorry." She muttered to Devin picking the phone back up that she had dropped in the processes knowing her brother was still standing outside the door. By this time tears were streaming uncontrollably down her face. "Devin please." she whispered sitting on her bed with her knees drawn up to her chest and her head resting on top of them. Her eyes were closed tight even though that didn't prevent the tears from coming.

Devin listened to Asha fight with her brother, Dakota. Hearing how sad she was broke his heart. He kept hearing Charity in his head. You can't ever see her again, Devin. I'm sorry. So that's how love ends. "Asha," he began, "I'm sorry. We can't." There. He had choked out the words. He started crying harder. He couldn't choke back his sobs. He couldn't take this anymore. He shut his phone and jumped out the window running from all the hurt and pain he wanted to leave behind.

Asha's heart crumbled first at the word sorry then can't "Devin." she said just before he hung up. Devin hadn't hung up fast enough though, she heard his sobs and the last part of her heart crumbled until she thought that she would die because she didn't have a heart. She felt hallow, couldn't it be like when you were in kindergarten. It didn't matter who the person was or how they dressed or talked. Thats what Asha wanted. "You can come in." she sighed wiping her tears on sleeve.
Dakota walked in and sat on the end of her bed. He looked at his sister who looked very small considering she was six foot tall. Well she looked small considering she was a girl who was usually sure of herself. He sat there in silence not knowing what to do.
